Goodbye My Itty Bitty Pretty Kitty
Today my feral street kitten (she was 1) Journey passed away. She was snakebit. And took over a week to die.
If ever I needed another sign that Halls Creek is not forever, this is it. I need to be closer to a vet. Deadly snakes, reptiles and amphibians are everywhere in Australia, but being closer to a vet will make my mind easier.
I sat with Journey, and when it became apparent that she was gone (still breathing, heart beating, but no conscious awareness - the door slammed, not a twitch), it ended. Leaving her like that (so anaemic her ears, gums and paw pads were sheet white, struggling to breath, unable to move her back legs or tail, losing control of her bladder and bowels), was cruel. I cried on her neck as it ended. I am crying now.
She taught me a lot. About cats, about life and above all about love.
Rest well my pretty girl. You were, are and always will be loved. Your life was short, but full of meaning and love. Your sleeping smile will always be remembered.
